Identification and distance in literature: Reflections on the artistry of Jorge Luis Borges

Story-telling is based on generating images. Identification gets the reader to co-operate in telling the story. To distance reader and story, various techniques can be used-none stronger than Borges', who attacks the making of images through his tales, and vice-versa.
